A letter signed by over 700 Houston defense attorneys is demanding outside federal help for the investigation into the destroyed evidence at Harris County Precinct 4. The Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association (HCCLA) led by Tyler Flood is asking for both state and federal assistance with the case. They also wish to strip Constable Precinct 4 of its law enforcement power during these investigations.
The reason for this is that both the District Attorney’s Office and the Constable are giving different numbers on how many cases may be in jeopardy. Many of these are related to DWI. Tyler Flood also states there’s cause for concern because “The DA’s office is investigation Precinct 4, but no one is investigating the DA’s office other than the DA.” He goes on to state that, “And to me, HCCLA has no confidence that this is a real investigation that will turn up real issues.”
Reports state that both the DA and the Constable are being investigated internally. If HCCLA sends the letter to the state, we’ll have to wait and see if the DA is investigated in addition to Constable Precinct 4.
