Houston Police Investigator Made 65 Errors in Cases

April 12, 2017

This Wednesday the Harris County District Attorney’s office notified all defense lawyers a crime-scene investigator is under the radar for making persistent mistakes on cases. The investigator is rumored to have made over 65 errors in criminal cases, including violent crimes such as 26 homicides. The findings were revealed by an audit conducted by the Houston Police Department and was brought to the attention of District Attorney Kim Ogg. She has ordered prosecutors to send notifications about the audit’s findings to all defense lawyers involved in the investigator’s cases. It could affect how defendants plead or their charges altogether. Tyler Flood, the managing attorney at Tyler Flood & Associates, Inc., is the president of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association. His role is to act as a representative of defense attorneys and notify any lawyers who may be involved in these cases. Flood recently stated that “We need to know as fast as possible because there are cases happening in court every day, and we just want to make sure that none of those are resolved improperly.” He went on to state that “No one is pleading guilty or going to trial on cases that may be affected by some of this evidence.” The Houston Police Department investigator has now been reassigned to patrol until the situation is resolved. His supervisor who conducted his reviews has been temporarily removed from his duties.
